THE DIPLOMA

The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage (QCF) is a preparation for work qualification that has been designed to prepare you for a career as a massage therapist/practitioner.

This qualification will develop your knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice and business practice for complementary therapies.
You will also develop your understanding and practical skills to competently provide massage services.
This is a Practitioner level qualification.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

To be accepted on this course you must have either attended an Introduction to Massage Workshop with Greenhouse Therapies or another school, or have attended at least a Level 2 Massage Course. (VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Holistic Therapies or equivalent)
 ** Please note: if you haven’t already gained the Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology Certificate or completed this unit as part of another course you will need to complete all the criteria for this unit.
The A&P  may be studied and attended alongside the massage Diploma course – the dates are very flexible – for details  Anatomy,Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapy

COURSE CONTENT

Units within this qualification have been mapped to the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS) and the qualification is accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) as well as being approved and supported by Skills for Health (the sector skills council for health).
 
This is a 4 unit Diploma, the 4 units are:
 
1: PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES, including:
  •  History of complementary therapies
  • Legislative requirements
  • Good clinical practice
 
2: BUSINESS PRACTICE FOR COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES, including:
  •  Researching a business concept
  • Preparing a business plan
  • Setting up a business
 
3: KNOWLEDGE OF ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY AND PATHOLOGY FOR COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES, including:
  •  The organization of the body
  • The anatomy, physiology and pathologies of each system of the body
 
4: PROVIDE BODY MASSAGE FOR COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES, including:
  •  Preparation of working area, self and client
  • Health and Safety
  • The consultation process
  • Application and uses of techniques, effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction, vibration,  neuromuscular and passive joint movements.
  • Application of these techniques in massage of back, abdomen, legs and feet, neck  and shoulders, face, full body
  • Correct posture in applying massage to prevent long term injury as a therapist
  • Benefits of massage
  • Contra – indications to massage
  • After-care of client
  • Adaptation of massage to suit the individual
  • Reflective practice

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Continuous assessment by means of written homework, assignments and home practice in the form of case studies.
Internal assessment involves tests and practical observations.
The course culminates in a final examination involving a practical observation of the therapy on a client of your choice.
 
Duration: This course can be completed / qualification attained within 4-6 months.
days or evenings ( daytime 6-9pm eves) + final exam
